BrightStars Program Focus: Dunn’s Corners Early Learning Center
Dunn’s Corners Early Learning Center is a non-profit early education program that has been a part of the community for 50 years. They provide morning preschool and extended day options for children ages three through five in a multi-age classroom. The program’s philosophy and curriculum are focused on a holistic view of children and their development, play-based learning, and developmentally appropriate practices. Dunn’s Corners provides children with a nurturing and child-centered early learning experience in which they can develop strong relationships, build skills, gain confidence, connect with a community, and establish positive habits that will serve as a foundation for successful school experiences throughout their lives.
Dunn’s Corners decided to join BrightStars to seek feedback and a support network for building upon the quality of their program, meeting their professional goals and needs, and better serve their families and children. Their participation in BrightStars has impacted their program by helping them reach their new 4-star rating! Dunn’s Corners is proud of their efforts and the improvements they have made while working to reach this goal. Specifically, they have made improvements in their outdoor learning environment by adding interest areas and engaging materials in this space. Dunn’s Corners has worked hard to create and implement a system of authentic assessment that can inform curriculum planning and be used to show families how their children are learning through play. They have also adjusted the ways in which their professional development experiences align with their individual and program-wide goals for improvement. Dunn’s Corners continues to strive for quality improvement and are already preparing themselves for the next steps in order to reach their goals.
