BrightStars Program Focus- Over the Rainbow II- Providence, RI

BrightStars is happy to report that Over the Rainbow II has renewed their participation and has earned 4 stars!

Over the Rainbow Learning Center II is located in Providence and it is the second center of Over the Rainbow Learning Centers. The center has 1 infant classroom, 1 toddler classroom, and 1 preschool classroom. The program’s philosophy is geared to providing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is presented in a nurturing, fun and creative way that encourages the power of play. Along with providing a curriculum that encourages children to explore, manipulate, and problem solve, the teachers at Over the Rainbow provide meaningful lessons for each child’s individual learning style, and goals. With bi-lingual teachers, the center is able to incorporate Spanish into their lessons.

Over The Rainbow Learning Center participated in the pilot program in 2008, and officially joined BrightStars in 2011. “Joining BrightStars was the best decision we have made! BrightStars provides us with the tools necessary that our center needs in order to provide our families with a high quality experience.” says program owner, Minerva Waldron. The program also shared, “With BrightStars our center is part of a community that includes The Center for Early Learning Professionals, LISC, and RI Kids Count. This community helps our center maintain vigorous standards to provide a safe and engaging environment for our students.”

Over the Rainbow Learning Center II received high overall scores around program structure, activities, interactions and language and reasoning in their ERS observations. The staff at the center maintain these practices by following a schedule created by the needs of the children. Teachers also respond to the children’s needs immediately by engaging in conversations with each child daily to build trust, to get the child’s perspective, to provide encouragement. The program shared “our goal is to help children build a strong foundation on which to begin lifelong learning and to launch a positive sense of self, respect for others, and to make a positive contribution to the world.”

Congratulations to the staff at Over the Rainbow for their continued efforts to provide quality care to early childhood children!
