Indoor and outdoor facilities improvements are currently a popular topic for child care programs and providers In Rhode Island. Renovations to facilities may lead to exciting improvements to program accessibility and safety can have a meaningful impact on overall program quality. However, these projects are often both complex and expensive. Grant and loan opportunities for facilities are available to qualified organizations through LISC.
Although BrightStars assessors are trained to evaluate specific program areas related to accessibility and safety as part of the Environment Rating Scale observations, their guidance on an ERS report does not replace a complete, formal evaluation of these program elements by certified Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) experts or certified playground safety experts. RIAEYC/BrightStars encourages programs considering facilities improvements to contact Rhode Island LISC for support. LISC can help programs find qualified professionals to assess the program’s indoor and outdoor space – including playgrounds – and help make recommendations for the anticipated project.
