Meet our new BrightStars Navigator: Jen!

What is your professional background?
My professional background consists of over a decade of classroom experience at the preschool level. I have taught in age-specific preschool classrooms, as well as multi-age preschool settings that served preschool children ages 3-5. During my time spent in the classroom, I especially enjoyed integrating multi-sensory experiences, nature, kindness, yoga, and open ended art experiences into the curriculum daily. As I taught over the years, I also learned so much from my young students!  Most recently, I served as an administrator at an early learning center. I found this position rewarding as I had the honor of mentoring emerging early childhood educators as well as working alongside some inspiring longtime early childhood educators.

What do you find most fulfilling about working in early childhood education?
Early childhood is such an enchanting time of profound growth and development. It is an absolute privilege to work in a field that respects, honors and supports this significant time during the lifespan. I believe working in the field of early childhood education contributes greatly to our community flourishing as a whole, leading to a brighter future for all.

What is a skill you’d like to learn, and why?
I would love to learn how to scuba dive someday. This would mean facing some fears, but I imagine it must be so peaceful, beautiful and awe-inspiring to be able to spend time exploring in the underwater environment, and I would love to experience that someday.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go and what would you do there?
I would go to Northern Finland at Christmastime! I would love to sleep overnight in a glass igloo dome where the Northern Lights are able to be viewed throughout the nightJ I would also go snowmobiling, dog sledding and on a sleigh ride!
