Rising Star Awards: Questions and Answers

This month, the Department of Human Services announced Rising Star Awards to recognize BrightStars programs converting to the new standards or achieving advanced levels. The following are frequently asked questions about the Rising Star Award Program.

What programs are eligible for the Rising Star Award?
New programs that joined BrightStars at the 2-5 star level, increased their star rating overall or converted to the 2013 BrightStars standards between June 1, 2015 and December 15, 2015 are eligible for an award.

How can my program use the Rising Star Award?
Award funds are to be reinvested into the program. Programs will be asked how the funds will be used. Examples of use of funds include supplies, family engagement, staff bonus, staff professional development, playground equipment, etc.

What amount is my program eligible for?
Child care centers, public schools and school-age programs may earn up to $6000 and family child care homes may earn up to $3000. For a breakdown of the award amounts click here to view the flyer.

How can my program apply?
Programs may apply by completing the Rising Star Payment Request form. The completed application can be emailed or mailed to Colleen Masterson at the Department of Human Services, Louis Pasteur Bldg, 3rd floor, 57 Howard Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920.
